Titolo articolo: Un decennio di filologia dantesca: retrospettive e prospettive nelle ultime edizioni della «Commedia»
In the last ten years – given the approaching of Dante’s Centennial anniversary in 2021 – the text of the «Commedia» has been the subject of many editorial activities based on various criteria. On one hand, there are scholars who have shown confidence in Petrocchi’s antica vulgata, even if submitted to a profound and refined review; on the other hand, there are editors who have tried to re-examine all the known manuscripts – including the recentiores – by the loci critici method, suggesting new paths to the edition of Dante’s poem. The essay proposes to the retrace and describe these achievements, trying to identifiy in the past the reasons for their diversity.

The essay discusses the genre of Marino’s major poem. First it follows its long and complex composition’s path, then it presents contemporary critical evaluations, focusing on the definition of the poems genre. Secondly it discusses the following evaluations up to the present. Eventually it proves that the main focus of «Adone» is the meditation of death and life’s perennial flowing. Thus the poem is coherent with its contemporary perception of vanity and fugacity of life. In fact the poem appears as a narrative summa, a poetic encyclopedia held together by a robust vision of the world, which is delivered in the first six octaves of each of the 20 cantos, where the poet shows his own ethos. But the pivot of the poem is the contemplation of the inexorable laws that govern the world with eternal vitality, well represented by Venus, the goddess of beauty that never ages or stops to work for life, fertility and love. But this ‘natural’ eternity leaves aside the individual human being, fragile, perishable, mortal, of which the handsome young man is the emblem. Adonis’ dead body, compared by Marino to that of Christ, calls into question Incarnation. In a plot full of surprising events and a continuos proliferation of stories, which turn around the main, light, erotic myth, Marino’s «Adone» introduces the reader in a world of perennial metamorphoses and constant disappearances.

The essay examines the metaphor of navigation and the genre of piscatory poetry that Gian Vincenzo Imperiali copiously recovers in Lo stato rustico, a poem published in three editions gradually increased between 1607 and 1613. The comparison with the ancient tradition and the new functions of this same traditions in a modern way is a key elementthat affects not only this specific metaphor, but also the ideological system of the work.

This paper focuses on Scalvini’s reading of Torquato Tasso’s life and poetry, as exposed in the articles he wrote for the «Biblioteca Italiana», in the Sciocchezzaio and, finally, in the Materiali Goethiani. Moreover, it examines the relationship between Scalvini’s and Foscolo’s interpretation of Tasso, the latter as expressed in some of the last English works by the Italian exiled poet.

Titolo articolo: Edoardo Sanguineti nelle vesti di Cathy Berberian: il concetto di ‘travestimento’ e le sue radici
In this essay, I make a bold claim: that Edoardo Sanguineti ‘s Concept of ‘travestimento’, central to his theatre aesthetics, has its roots in certain performances of the singer Cathy Berberian. I reconstruct the characteristics of Berberians recital-performance A la recherche de la musique perdue (Berlin, 1971), stressing the central role of masquerade, impersonation-incarnation and citation. I show how Sanguineti’s poem Reisebilder 44, evoking the recital, develops, in nuce, his idea of ‘travestimento’. And I define the concept in a new way by jointly analysing the three areas in which Sanguineti develops it: his theory of translation — mainly the translation of dramatic texts —, his conceptualisation of theatre, and his ‘réécriture’ of other authors’ texts for the stage. Sanguineti starts with the literal sense of ‘travestimento’, in order to focus on the difference between masquerade and masqueraded object as the difference between original and re-elaboration, the familiar and the unfamiliar, enunciation and citation. Highlighting such differences is the aspect that connects Sanguineti’s various uses of the term ‘travestimento’.

In making reference to both previous exegetical interventions and precise content and lexical references, the author finds, in the skeptical philosophy of David Hume and in some principles of modern optical science, two cultural traces remained as substratum in the narrative that the variant process, to which the text has been subjected in the transition to the poet’s last will, he was unable to fully remove. A suggestive critical interpretation is thus proposed, corroborated by a little-known paraphrase of Forse un mattino andando made by Montale in the early 60s.

This paper focuses on some aspects of Andrea Camilleri’s historical narrative, taking into consideration three titles: Il colore del sole (2007), Inseguendo un’ombra (2014), and especially La rivoluzione della luna (2013). Starting on a reflection on a certain metaliterary tendency in Camilleri’s work, I want to highlight how the author explores the dialectic relation between reality and fiction, typical of the historical novel. Through a peculiar analysis of sources and the free use of them, Camilleri adds to the historical background a series of inventions that, with a keen sense of play, overturn the course of historical events.
